Natural Acne or Spot Treatment

I will share with you that I have often suffered with spot breakouts. Many spot treatments in the shops contain ingredients that dry out my skin and after a while stop working. However I have found the best way to treat my spot out breaks and it requires only using natural products that contain no chemicals. Using this method I am able to keep my skin looking clear and healthy.

Just mix a little Aloe Vera with a drop of Tea Tree oil and dab on your face using a cotton wool pad.

Rinse of with Warm water and then pat dry with a muslin cloth.

You can also dab Tea Tree Oil on to your face on its own but be aware it has a strong smell.

Tea Tree £3.14 http://bit.ly/1insa3w
Muslin Squares £5.99http://bit.ly/1ahOB0d
Organic cotton wool pads £1.69 http://bit.ly/18u2ePL
Aloe Vera Gel £9.99 http://bit.ly/1ba3K3U

You only need to use a drop of Tea Tree and Aloe Vera so they last for ages. and both products have many other uses too so offer good value for money! Aloe Vera also works great as a Moisturiser too.

I would also recommend the Faith In Nature Replenishing  Moisturising Cream. Faith In Nature Products are free from harmful chemicals such as parabens and are also vegan, cruelty free, and made with organic ingredients. As it contains gentle ingredients it is much kinder for your skin.

If you like to wear make up, I find it best to use mineral based make up, as it is made with gentle ingredients. Make sure you remove your make up every night before bed. (Aloe Vera makes a fantastic make up remover too!)  At the moment I am using this KBK mineral make up .

Product Review – Naturtint Permanent Hair Colourant

I have not coloured my hair since before my daughter who is now 16 month is born.  I was worried about exposing her to the chemicals in the hair colourants. When ever I had coloured my hair in the past using a home dye kit, the house has always had a strong smell of chemicals. When using them, they gave me a headache and made me feel dizzy.

20131122_110651

When I saw this home dye kit had no harsh chemicals, is free from ammonia, parabens and made from  vegetable Ingredients I decided to give it ago. So here is my honest review.

20131122_110714

I used the honey blonde colour, my hair was a dark blonde before hand.

The packaging looks like many leading brands you can get in the supermarkets etc. Inside the box there is two separate bottles of mixtures that you mix together, a pair of gloves, a sachet of shampoo and a tube of conditioner as well as instructions on how to mix the dye and apply it.

20131122_110757

You mix the dye the same way as you would with many of the leading brands, you shake the mixed mixture for 2 minutes and then apply to dry hair. It was easy to get good coverage on my hair. There was absolutely no horrible smells from the mixture at all. It did drip a little as I applied it to my hair but not as bad as others I have used.

When applied it needed to be left on for 30 minutes which I felt was a long time compared to some of the other brands I have used as many now you can wash off in 10-15 minutes. As it doesn’t smell it is not such an issue though.

When I rinsed the dye out of my hair after 30 minutes, my hair actually felt horribly rough. I needed to put quite a bit of the conditioner on to make if feel smooth and even then I felt it still benefited from a little bit of coconut oil. This fixed the “rough” feeling though so not a big problem.

20131122_110642

The end result though is what I would expect with a leading brand from the supermarket, I can’t say it is better but it certainly isn’t worse. My hair feels lovely, smooth and healthy with a nice shine. The main benefit of this colourant is that is without any harsh and nasty chemical.

5 Ecofriendly Health and beauty products! Under £10

5 Eco Friendly Health, personal care and Beauty products! £10 or less!

Are you putting nasty chemicals on to your skin every day. Most beauty products that we use everyday contain nasty chemicals that are damaging to our health! From our make up (foundation, lipsticks, etc) , body creams, toothpaste, deodorants as well as our hair care products.

Parabens are in most products on shop shelves, though there are becoming more products that are now free of parabens. Parabens are preservatives that are used to extend the use by date of products however they have been found in almost all breast cancer tumours.  I now actively make sure I avoid products with parabens for me and my daughters.

Sodium Lauryl sulfates are foaming agents found in toothpaste, shampoo, soap etc. They are linked to skin conditions, liver damage and also suspected to be linked to cancer.

These are just two chemicals that I will look to see if they are on the ingredients list of beauty products that I buy.

The products that I list below are all free from harsh nasty chemicals and made from safe gentle ingredients.

All products are under £10 and can be found at Claire Eco Stuff

1.Salt of the Earth Natural Deodorant Stone £4.99

Free From Parabens and alcohol Safe for the whole family! Lasts for ages!!

2.Faith in Nature Exfoliating Face & Body Polish! £6.29

3.Fractionated Coconut Oil. Only £4.99

fractionatedcoconutoil

While more people are familiar with the usage and benefits of coconut oil, there are only a handful of people who are aware of the advantages of Fractionated Coconut Oil. In this variety of coconut oil, the smaller fatty acid triglycerides are taken out from the coconut oil, and this process does not involve chemicals. Due to this, this variety of coconut oil is light and does not have a staining effect as compared to the whole coconut oil.

If you are not familiar with the benefits of coconut oil, you will be amazed to learn that it is not only used as hair and skin care, but also considered as good cooking medium.

The combination of coconut oil along with lemon is increasingly used in the Indian subcontinent as a hair strengthening and conditioning agent. The oil is heated and applied to the scalp and hair. It is believed that application of coconut oil helps to keep your hair free from dandruff and provides protection from the environmental pollution. Besides this, it is also used for enhancing growth of hair. In fact, there are various brands of shampoo that contain traces of coconut oil for nourishment of hair.

New born babies are often smeared with coconut oil as it keeps their skin soft and supple.

Coconut oil: In a nutshell

When it comes to coconut oil, the benefits extend beyond the normal beauty effects and the health benefits of this oil should not be overlooked. It is considered as a safe cooking medium that aids in metabolism, easily digestible and required for proper functioning of some of the major glands in the body. This oil can be applied on the skin and hair before taking a bath to leave your skin feeling soft and moisturised for a longer time.

While whole coconut oil is useful, fractionated coconut oil is even better for skin, and it does not have the greasy effect, which is sometimes undesirable to people who use coconut oil.

4.Sarakan Toothpaste £2.79

Sarakan toothpaste and mouth fresh were first developed 40 years ago by a British army doctor serving in India. He noticed that the Indian people seemed to have good teeth and gums despite their generally low quality of nutrition.

Looking into the reasons why it appeared it was the regular use of chewing on sticks from a shrub called Salvadora persica, or the “toothbrush tree.” This plant is widespread throughout the Middle East, Africa and Asia and is well-known for its powerful antiseptic and curative properties.

They are suitable for both adults and children, contain no sugar, alcohol, artificial colours or preservatives and are sodium lauryl sulphate free.

5 Concealer – Fairly Light £9.29

A light peachy shade for fair skin.

 concealer-fairly-light

Our healing mineral concealers contain Allantoin to heal damaged skin and promote skin regeneration which makes them perfect for use on blemishes too. You can also use them to control oil and they are particularly effective if brushed onto the T-zone before applying foundation and will keep your complexion matt and shine free all day.

Switching to Eco Friendly products? All products £5! or LESS

Buying Eco Friendly products has lots of benefits. Being free from harsh chemicals is less damaging to you, your family and the environment

Some people often say to me that Ecofriendly products cost more money than the usual brand they buy. I don’t think this is true unless you are buying items of lesser quality. Obviously you can get things cheaper however items such as bin bags often are thinner and rip, so you use more of them. The washing powder packets are smaller so you need to buy more of them plus these products often contain harmful chemicals which are damaging to your skin, health and environmentally You also get the satisfaction that you are buying responsibly and taking care of your health and the environment It is good to know that you are doing your bit.

To show that being Ecofriendly and buying products free from harsh chemicals I am going to show you 5 products from my online shop that all cost £5 or LESS!

  1. A good place to start is switching your bin bags to degradable ones.  They will completely degrade to H2O and CO2 within a period of 12 – 18 months, unlike the typical plastic bag that will be around for about 400 – 1000 years! Only £2.29 for 20 bags!

Would you buy used toys for Christmas gifts?

I asked this as the past couple of years, I have changed how we shop for christmas.

Christmas can often be an expensive and wasteful time of the year. In the current climate it is important to save money as well as become more resourceful. It is also important to reduce waste. I have two children to buy gifts. One who will be almost 18 months and one who will be almost 12 years. I admit in the past I have often felt I had to get my daughter as much as I could possible afford without using credit or getting into debt.  If there wasn’t many gifts for her under the tree I would feel bad.

Two years ago she wanted a Nintendo Wii with a couple of games. This is cost more than I would usually pay for a christmas gift for her. So this was the first time I looked into buying used gifts. She got her Nintendo Wii and games, now granted it didn’t come in a box or packaging however this is no problem. In fact less waste and rubbish to dispose off. Two year later the game system is still working fine and my daughter even buys pre owned games out of her own money. She knows she can get more games this way. She never complained about getting used items as she knows she would not have them otherwise.

Last year I struggled with what to get my oldest daughter. She was just about to turn 11. She didn’t need much so I brought stuff just so she would have something to open. She enjoyed playing with the science set and magic kits we got her however many of the gifts are still unopened a year later. So these unopened gifts will be getting wrapped up and donated to a charity this year. We have decided that we will be only buying her gifts that she needs and we know she will use, even if she doesn’t have as many gifts. She has also got a lovely new dressed brought used which she is over the moon with.

For my toddler, we have brought used toys for her this Christmas. She has got a lovely train set and a few wooden toys. I know she will love them. Nearly all her clothes we have brought her in the past have been pre owned and in excellent condition, and she has only a few toys that have been brought new. The stuff is in excellent condition with plenty of use still left so I see no reason why not to. She has lots of fun playing with her toys and is neatly dressed and tidy. In fact we can get better quality clothes and toys that we would buy new. Her train set cost us £10 and would have cost us £60 new! We would not spend £60 of one toy. It would be such a shame if these items were just thrown away. If they are still in good condition when we have finished with them, we to will pass them on to someone else rather than just throw them away.

So I think the benefits of buying used –

1.Saves money

2.Less waste

3.Can get better stuff for the same amount of money.

4.Helping others earn a little money by buying their unwanted items.

5.More Eco Friendly

Libby Chan Smelly pet tonic is a natural tonic that is made from edible ingredients and is pet friendly.

(Product description)

The big cleaning manufacturers keep telling us to kill all known germs dead, that a sterile environment is a clean & healthy environment and that we should be downright scared of touching anything that hasn’t been flooded with gallons of chemicals or anti-bacterial cleaners. Some of us know that this approach is far from healthy and frankly dangerous for us, our families and our pets. By killing all bacteria you also kill all the beneficial strains that live with us & help us & our pets build and maintain resistance to the bad. You also INCREASE the number of bad bacteria in your home – this is because the ONLY thing that can compete with bad bacteria for the space & food is other bacteria! By killing all the good the bad just come back stronger, faster and more resilient than before.

The most effective way to combat this is to use a friendly bacterial fighting force so the clever folk at My Living Water UK have created Libby’s Smelly Pet Tonic. A probiotic cleaner & odour eater concentrate made from all natural products containing friendly & beneficial bacteria. These bacteria create a balanced microbial environment by producing enzymes which break down odours, grease, dirt and grime. With continued use, Libby’s Smelly Pet Tonic probiotic cleaner & odour eater creates a natural, clean, healthy and balanced home eco-system; chemical free and safe for you, your family & your pet!

Social Media Course ~ Become a social media whizz !

I wanted to share with you this fantastic course because since I started working at home, I have found how little I knew about Social media, and how it is such a vital tool for me. It has been such a learning curve.

Social media can be a mind field, with so many different social media sites from Facebook, twitter, pinterest, you tube. Social media is also growing and changing so fast it is becoming harder to keep up with it.   However it is also a powerful marketing tool, you just need to know how to use it correctly.
Many small  businesses and individuals start their facebook pages etc and wonder why they are not getting “likes,”  “comments” and more importantly sales.  Well it could be because you are actually doing it wrong! This course will make it easier to get to grips with social media but also and most importantly the course will give you the knowledge needed to turn your business into a success!

The course costs just £99 and is value at £4000 so is an amazing opportunity at a great price.  I see it as a £99 investment into your business as the rewards could be amazing.

To purchase this course simply go to Claire Eco Stuff, click on the shop tab and scroll down to social media. You can then simply add the course to your shopping basket, check out and your set to go! or check out my Facebook page for the link http://www.Facebook.com/ecostuff

Course description

“This training course has been specifically designed to help mums with kids, carers, physically challenged, retired, redundant, in fact – anyone who seriously wants to make a regular income in their own time, and for doing something really worthwhile. Social media – facebook, twitter, pinterest, linkedin, youtube, etc. is moving rapidly – in fact, so fast that 99% of people don’t know how to do it properly. This includes private individuals, self employed, and small businesses. The other major factor is that they simply do not have the time, energy or resources to keep up, and as a result, they know they are missing out on masses of business.

This is where you step in! We train you online in all aspects of social media, and one on one tuition and support. We then keep you regularly updated as SM changes, and we provide online workshops too.

Anyone will tell you that it costs fortunes for these people to employ SM managers. You will bridge that gap, and provide a superb service at a reasonable price, whereby you both benefit.

This social media course cost over £4000 to produce. It is your opportunity to get the income that you want, working with the tutors on a recognised course, and to allow you to either promote your own products, opportunity, etc. via social media, or get paid a regular income managing other people’s social media worldwide (there is no limit) or both!

As soon as you pay for your course (you have a statutory 14 day money-back guarantee so you can check it out fully) we will send you the link to get started.

We look forward to helping you build an income from home – possibly greater than any income you could get working for anyone else – and being a recognised social media guru – in less than 30 days from now!”

Bringing up baby eco friendly

Bringing up baby Eco Friendly! (Part one!)

I am a mum to a 15 month old baby girl and trying to make our home as eco friendly as possible and not expose my children to harsh chemicals, I took a look at what products we use in our home around our baby.

20120703_161535

When my baby was new-born, my intention was not to use baby wipes at all, after water is the purest thing to use. However after 3 months of cleaning up the pooh of a breast-fed baby, I soon relented. However it was good to know I could get fragrance free, organic wipes that are free from chemicals such as parabens!

These Jackson Reese wipes are not only organic, without fragrance and alcohol free, they are also biodegradable, and recyclable. They  do not contain any potential irritants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Alcohol, Lanolin, Phthalates, MIT, Parabens, Triclosan, Propylene glycol, Petro Chemicals,   Phenoxyethanol, Benzoates or Soap.

jacksonreecewipesunscenteddisp

To bath baby this Organic Baby Shampoo &  body wash is lovely! It contains no suspect ingredients. My baby girl loves her bath time, not so keen on having her hair washed but I find I can wash her hair quickly by adding this to the bath water and rinsing her head, she is to busy playing with the bubbles she doesn’t even notice.

beamingbabyshampoodisp

When she has cradle cap, I personally use olive oil or Coconut oil , completely natural products rather than baby oil. Coconut oil has always done the trick for us. If coconut oil doesn’t work for you, than you could try this cradle cap lotion that is made from Aloe Vera gel and Rose hip oil from the mountains in Chile.

coconutdisp

For me, I think the must have product with a baby is Coconut Oil, it is completely natural and is one product that has many uses.

  • Clear up nappy rash
  • Cradle Cap
  • body lotion, (dry skin etc)
  • You can even use it yourself, on your hair and skin.

No need for loads of different products for you and baby, so safe on space, packaging and money!

fractionatedcoconutoil

As for nappies I love bamboo cloth nappies as they are really absorbent and I can get all in ones that are easy to use plus you can get so many funky patterns, I love to get them from independent sellers, You can get custom ones if you find someone who makes them. (Check out Etsy!)

You can also get bamboo nappy liners and bamboo towels. Bamboo towels are super soft to dry baby in.

bambootowelsdisp_2 (1)nappy-liners-disopmicrofibrenappylinerdisp

And I just have to share these bamboo socks for baby as they are just so adorable! (Read my past blog entry on “bamboo instead of cotton”  about the benefits of bamboo)

bamboochildrenssocksdisp_1

Have a look at http://www.claireecostuff.wikaniko.com for a range of baby products, bamboo towels and coconut oil as well as a range of eco friendly products.

Product Review ~ Faith in Nature Aloe Vera Shampoo

IMG_20131024_140159

Both myself and my daughter have problems with dry hair after washing and after hearing about the benefits of aloe vera we were both keen on trying this Aloe vera shampoo. My daughter after reading a blog mentioned her concern about the ingredients in the shampoo was the cause for her dry hair that felt “rough”. She requested a shampoo with Aloe vera.

I am concerned about the use of chemicals that my children are exposed too and I am always checking ingredients and doing what I can to reduce these chemicals in our family home. My daughter washes her hair 3 times a week, that is 3 times a week she could be rubbing and absorbing harmful chemicals into her scalp.

Faith in Nature are a range of beauty, skin and personal care products that are Organic, vegan and cruelty free. They have an amazing wide range of products, from shampoos, conditioners, soaps, and deodorants and much more.

Faith in Nature seemed the prefect choice. It is made from organic natural ingredients and has less suspect ingredients in. It contains no Parabens which are thought to cause cancer on its list.
Faith in Nature Aloe Vera shampoo, is an ecofriendly choice, as well as being organic the bottle is made of biodegradable materials and are free from phthalates

20131024_140447

So how did we find Faith in Nature Aloe Vera Shampoo.

Well it smelled wonderful, it is always nice to have a lovely smelling shampoo. It has a lovely natural fresh outdoors smell and doesn’t have that horrible chemical smell. I found that only a small amount was needed, just a small blob.  It did not lather a large amount however was still easy to cover all hair. (she has very long hair) I rinsed the shampoo out using a shower head.

Afterwards I just dried it with a towel and brushed it when damp with a paddle brush. I didn’t use a hair dryer, straighteners or other styling tools. My hair felt lovely and soft, it also looked a lighter shade than it usually does and looked a lot shinier and smooth. I had no need to use straighteners, and the usual time-consuming work that I have to do to make it look smooth. I don’t have time for this so my hair was usually tied up back. Well after washing with this shampoo I was happy to wear it down. My daughter also found her hair was softer than usual and she found it easier to brush and style in her favourite pony tail.

We are both very happy with this shampoo, though we do plan to try out some of the other Faith in Nature Shampoo and Conditioners as there is so many in the range that look wonderful.
I think the best thing is apart from lovely hair is that my family are exposed to less chemicals in the home.
